6th Edition

6-8 September 2019

Ladies of the Lake is based in the small market town of Ulverston.  From 2019 we’re growing the event into a mini-festival with events all weekend for riders and their families.

Ladies of the Lake is the authentic, friendly, supportive, welcoming event - once you’ve been, you’ll just keep coming back!

Ladies of the Lake is the women-only cycle event of the English Lake District, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The routes are spectacular - as good as you will find anywhere in the World!

We’re still planning and negotiating, but we’re hoping to have speakers, film, book launches, skills workshops, a family activity day during the Sunday rides and more!

We’ll update you be email, but to stay completely up to date, follow our Facebook or Twitter accounts.  Come and join us for a brilliant, end-of-season weekend, it’s closer than you think!

Ulverston, it's closer than you think!

A lovely tour of Coniston Water, with a beautiful food stop and plenty of time to take in the views and selfies.

For 2019 we’re building in an escape route if you don’t fancy the final climb, making it a much steadier day out.

As always, the food and support will be fantastic!

Pricing

Price increases – we haven’t increased our prices for four years now, during which time our costs have increased every year. We used to be a fairly high fee, high quality provider and have become an average fee high quality provider! We can’t sustain this so have increased our prices slightly to maintain the viability of the event. We appreciate that nobody like price rises, but hope you’ll appreciate that we’re doing our best to charge fairly and deliver a great event.

Competition

We’re working on it will get something to you as soon as possible.

Festival Time

The idea of turning the event into a bit of a festival came to us during a dog walk, as it does! Ulverston is Cumbria’s ‘Festival Town’ so why not add one for the Ladies of the Lake weekend we thought.

It won’t be a big marquee type festival, more of a series of events linked to the Sunday rides, some of which will be women-only and others which will be open to all.

We’ll publish a full programme later but for now we’re working with The Northern Line,  Ride Bikes and Ulverston Leisure Centre.  We’re intending to run:

  • Cycling themed family fun day – during the rides on Sunday.
  • Women’s skills workshops with Jenny from Ride Bikes (one of the Top 100 Women’s Cycling Influencers)
  • A film, Q&A and book signing on one of the women’s cycling greats.
  • An adventure cycling evening.
  • Possibly a BMX pump track or Street Velodrome
  • A Northern Line, Ladies of the Lake open event
  • Possibly manufacturer and governing body stalls on the Saturday market.
  • Anything else that we can fit in!

On top of this, Ulverston is a great place for a weekend, with loads of independent shops, great bars and restaurants.

Keep up to date with what’s happening by following our Facebook and Twitter pages or signing up for updates.

Our Sponsors

Events like Velo Retro rely on the generosity of sponsors who commit to supporting the event. In return, we work hard to try to ensure that sponsors feel that their support has worked well for them. We prefer to work closely with sponsors to ensure that their visibility is good both before, during and after the event.

Our preference is to work with well-matched sponsors who have a product or service which aligns well with the ethos of the event and would be unlikely to engage with a sponsor who we considered a poor fit.

If you might be interested in sponsoring the event or part of it, please get in touch to discuss your requirements.
